This makes you feel terrible and can also cause you to lose that hard-earned muscle, which in turn slows down your metabolism, making it even harder to lose weight or maintain what you have lost.

Why? It's due to the decrease in calories, which causes your thyroid to slow down, making it impossible to burn fat. This will amplify your symptoms of fatigue and weakness, and can even cause permanent hair loss. Those seemingly innocent cleanses can also wreck havoc on your pocketbook.  :)

I can hear you asking now, "But how; juicing has so many healthy ingredients?" 

Let's be honest; if you like the juice you're drinking, the odds are it's because it's full of sugar. Even though the sugar might be from fresh fruit, it's still sugar, and your cells don't know the difference. And, when it comes to your veggies, it's always better to chew your food. Chewing is more satisfying to the senses.

You may think you're getting a few vitamins and minerals, but the blood sugar rise isn't worth it. Besides, you're not getting as many vitamins and minerals as you think. The lack of essential fats prevents nutrients from being absorbed. 

FATTENING FACTS ABOUT JUICING

It takes 2-4 pounds of vegetables to make one (1) 16-ounce juice. If you chewed those same vegetables, it would take you days vs. that quick sugar hit. You're bathing your cells in liquid sugar when juicing like that.

A 16-ounce mixed vegetable and fruit juice (like the one you would order at Whole Foods) with beets, carrots, kale, cucumbers, apples, spinach, and celery packs about 400 calories and over 50 grams of blood sugar spiking sugar!

This excess sugar is not only stored, but it can also gather in your liver, clogging it (Isn't that why we cleanse in the first place?). It also gathers in our muscles and leads to insulin resistance, making weight loss practically impossible.

While you might get ½ of your daily requirement of Vitamin A when juicing, most people forget that Vitamin A is fat soluble; meaning it needs to be consumed with a fat if you want your body to absorb it efficiently. One-third of these liquid sugar calories are stored as fat.

    Losing weight and exercising can make us feel exhausted, hungry, and cranky. And, if you're one of those people who think they don't need to take supplements, you'll want to hear this.

    According to a study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 40 percent of adults are low in some nutrients. This study also found that overweight people consumed up to 12 percent fewer vitamins and minerals compared to adults of a healthy weight.     After visiting France with my family, you can bet we came back with a few new not-so-healthy habits. We loved this dessert so much I decided to give it a metabolic makeover so we can eat it whenever we feel like it. 

    Clafoutis (French pronunciation: [klafuti]) is a baked French dessert of fruit that’s traditionally made with black cherries and arranged in a buttered loaf pan or dish and covered with a thick flan-like batter. Clafoutis are almost always dusted with powdered sugar and served lukewarm, sometimes with cream, which is a diet deal-breaker — until now. This recipe transforms clafoutis into a thermogenic dessert for under 90 calories!

    Prep time: 5 minutes 
    Cooking time: 20 minutes
    Serves: 2

    Ingredients

    (1/3 cup) Melt fat milk (stir two scoops of Vanilla Complete Protein powder with 1/3 cup of water)
    (3 tbsp) Oats
    (2) Egg whites

    Instructions

    (1 cup) Frozen banana

    Kick Hunger and Cravings to the Curb


    Tired of making the same weight loss resolutions every year, only to watch them slowly fade away?

    Eating high protein foods helps suppress appetite-controlling hormones

    A Fat-Burning Feast For New Year's Eve

    The holidays are over and it's New Year's resolution time, and if you're like me, this year's resolution list includes eating healthy.

    New Year's Eve is a time to go all out and do something special, but that doesn't mean it needs to be unhealthy. I've got the perfect delicious, good-for-you dinner that your whole family will love.

    The best part is, the more you eat the healthier you'll be. Seafood is loaded with iodine that helps boost thyroid function along with tons of other health benefits.

    Here's my fat-burning feast for New Year's Eve.....

    APPETIZER: GRILLED CALAMARI ON SKEWERS
    Servings: 4
    Prep Time: 5 minutes
    Cook Time: 10 minutes

    Ingredients:
    (1 pound) Squid (calamari), tubes only
    Salt and pepper
    Extra virgin olive oil
    (1) Lime, cut into wedges
    Few sprigs fresh parsley, finely minced
    Bamboo skewers, soaked

    Directions:
    1. Preheat grill. Wash squid, pat dry with paper towel. Cut squid into 2-inch tubes and thread onto bamboo skewer. Season both sides with salt and pepper. 2. Grill over medium-high heat for 4 minutes each side or until edges slightly charred. 3. Drizzle olive oil over cooked calamari, squeeze lime over and top with parsley.

    SALAD: CEASAR SALAD

    Ingredients:
    (1/3 cup) Grated Parmigiano Reggiano
    (¼ cup) Fresh lemon juice
    (1 small) Garlic clove
    (½ tbsp) Dijon mustard
    (2) Anchovy fillets
    (1 tbsp) Extra virgin olive oil
    (5 tbsp) Fat-free Greek yogurt *optional

    Directions:
    In the bowl of a food processor add the cheese, the lemon juice, garlic clove, mustard and the anchovies. Turn the machine on and let it run for 15 to 20 seconds. Add the oil and yogurt and let the machine run for another 15 seconds. Makes 3/4 cups. Toss romaine lettuce in a bowl with this creamy Caesar dressing until coated and Mangia!

    ENTREE: QUICK & EASY FISH STEW
    Servings: 4
    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 20 minutes

    Fish Stew

    The variations are endless for holidays. I can add ½ pound of shrimp, mussels or clams, scallops, and especially king crab legs to the stew. If you do add shellfish, add them a couple of minutes before the fish. They need more time to cook and open. And add more liquid to accommodate the extra fish. Of course, I add more vegetables.

    Ingredients:
    (6 Tbsp) Olive oil
    (1 medium) Onion, chopped (about 1½ cups)
    (3 large) Garlic cloves, minced
    (3–-4) celery stalks
    (2) Carrots cut up into chunks
    (1) 14-ounce can of whole or crushed seasoned tomatoes with their juices
    (2 tsp) Tomato paste (optional)
    (2–3 cups) Clam juice (or substitute chicken broth)
    (1) ½ lb fish fillets (use a firm white fish such as halibut, cod, red snapper, or sea bass), cut into 2-inch pieces

    Directions:
    Fastest Method: Fast method for an Even quicker version: Saute onions, garlic, and red pepper flakes in olive oil. Add clam juice and marinara sauce as well as celery and carrots. When bubbling, toss in some fish (shellfish first). Simmer a few minutes and voila!

    Longer method:.Heat olive oil in a large thick-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add onion and sauté 4 minutes, add the garlic and cook a minute more. Add parsley and stir 2 minutes. Add tomato and tomato paste, and gently cook for 10 minutes or so. Add clam juice, and fish. Bring to a simmer and simmer until the fish is cooked through and easily flakes apart, about 3–5 minutes. Add seasoning. Salt to taste. Ladle into bowls and serve.
