"I Mixed It Up and Lost More Daily!"

What is your favorite LynFit metabolic boosting weight loss recipe?
I love combining (1 scoop) of the Complete Whey Protein Shake with (1 scoop) of the Egg White Protein Shake. This really works for me.

I tested it because I heard Lisa share that the Egg White Protein Shake tightens up the skin. Vanilla is not my favorite flavor, so that's why I mix them. I began to see certain areas around my body begin to tighten up after a few weeks. I also started to lose weight faster. Since my hysterectomy, my metabolism took a harsh dive, and the combination definitely brought it back up.

Did you encounter any obstacles? If so, how did you overcome them?

How has your life changed since you lost weight?
My clothes fit better, so I get to shop for new ones. What woman doesn't like that?

One thing that I did notice was that I seldom get the intense migraine headaches I used to because I've changed my eating habits, which keeps my blood sugar balanced. As a pastor's wife, we are always out doing different things like helping others and teaching or providing spiritual guidance. Losing Weight As A Couple — Double The Determination

If you and your honey both want to lose weight and get in shape, I suggest joining forces in the battle of the bulge together. That way, the other person can't steer you off course since your goals are the same. Losing together as a couple offers a lot of advantages, but be aware of the differences in your metabolisms. Here's what you should know before you launch a weight-loss regimen with your partner.

Recognize That You're Different

Losing weight as a couple, or even with a close friend, may increase your chances for success. Or, it may drive a wedge between you if one of you feels abandoned by the other. Let's face it, couples usually eat together and gain together.

The advantages of losing weight together are greater and include mutual support and inspiring one another. When you both have the same goal, decisions about what foods to buy and which foods should not be brought into the house, and where to dine out are easier for couples when they are working toward the same goal. But even when you're on the same page you and your partner may run into differences that test the bond between you if one of you assumes the role of food police. Big problems can arise if one of you is monitoring every morsel of food the other eats.

And, if you use your partner's relapses as an excuse to avoid sticking with your own plan, neither of you will make much progress losing weight. 

When It Comes To Losing Weight, Women And Men Are Not Equal

One of the most common drawbacks to losing weight as a couple is the metabolic differences between men and women. For some couples, comparing numbers on the bathroom scale can be frustrating, to say the least, especially for the woman. Men lose weight twice as fast as women, and they just aren’t as emotional. This can be a good thing and be in your favor because they can pull and push you, even when you feel like going off the plan. You may not be happy in that movement, but you’ll be glad later.

Keeping in mind that it’s typically easier for men to lose weight and keep it off will help you not be upset that you may be losing slower.

Men Can Eat More Than Women Without Gaining Weight

Generally speaking, men have more muscle, which speeds up the metabolism, and they have less estrogen (unless they are overweight to the point they have man boobs and belly fat ... LOL). Most men tend to fidget and move more than women, so they have a higher calorie budget. 

At the same time, a woman's weight loss may not show up on the scale as quickly her male partner's. When you lose weight, some of it is water, and men have a higher concentration of water in their bodies, so they tend to shed weight faster. Pre-menopausal/menopausal women are more likely to see fluctuations in weight because of monthly water-weight gain and loss. This makes consistent supplement use even more important.

Try not to get discouraged if your man drops weight faster than you. Just stay on track until you bust through the plateau. Set your own specific goals and stick to them, and have your partner do the same. Make it a point to support and encourage each other without making comparisons.

Couples Who Workout Together Stay Together And Keep The Weight Off

Here are some metabolic boosting tips for staying active:  

  • Try to do (3) metabolic boosting workouts weekly at a moderate intensity (you can slow them up or hit pause). 
  • Aim to walk every day to make sure you get in your 10,000 steps. Look for more ways to move during the day such as taking the stairs, raking leaves, gardening, cleaning the house, washing the car, and walking instead of taking the car to do errands. One of my favorite ways to do this during the work week is to talk and walk. I walk while I'm on the phone. Our phones are no longer attached to the wall so we can move freely!
  • Don’t forget about your core. Add in a Lean Core Workout or Recovery Stretch to keep your body in working order.
  • Most importantly, have fun! You may end up laughing your butt off, and laughter is the best medicine for relationships and weight loss. Exercising together can also replace time spent together eating, which is a very good thing.

Don't Eat Together Out Of Boredom Or To Comfort Your Emotions

Do you crave the wrong kind of food when you're stressed, sad, bored, or depressed? Often, when couples need to lose weight, is because they plop down in front of the television together with a full bag of chips or some sort of unhealthy food after a hard day at work to relieve stress. Or, maybe they go out to eat to avoid meal prep and to relieve stress, which can wreak havoc on the waistline.  

It's not uncommon for people to eat in response to stress, uncomfortable or hurt feelings, depression, and anxiety. Yet most women tend to have stronger emotional ties to food, which is another reason they struggle to lose weight while men seem to lose easier.  

When you look at food as a way to avoid your feelings or to console yourself, it can be disastrous, making it almost impossible to stop eating or resist the comfort foods that caused the weight gain, even when you're full. I suggest grabbing a Lean Bar to replace those not-so-good foods. And, if you’re the one in the relationship who doesn’t use food to elevate your mood, you may find it difficult to understand why your partner finds relief in overeating.  

Here are some tips to help you and your partner avoid emotional eating:

  • Talk to your partner when you feel a binge coming on.
  • Plan ahead by creating a plan ahead of time, before these cravings begin.
  • Make a list of non-food related activities to do together, or alone when you have the urge to turn to food. Your plan should include taking a short walk or a bike ride together to shift your focus away from food. 
  • Be attentive to food and mood links throughout your day.
  • Keep a food journal, recording everything you eat and when you eat it. If you bite it, write it and note your emotions at the time. Making a food plan the day before is a great way to distract yourself, and it also provides subliminal support, a.k.a., brainwashing, so you're more prone to eat what you’re supposed to the next day, helping to prevent food binges before they happen.

Weigh-In Together Daily To Help Stay On Track

It’s a good idea to weigh yourself every day when you're trying to lose weight because you can't fool the scale. It never lies. Sometimes we fool ourselves into

Sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking we didn’t overeat when the truth is we have lost sight of what our body really needs, and almost always feel like we aren’t eating enough. If you have more than an inch of body fat to lose, your body could easily survive for longer than you think. Allow the scale to guide you and keep you on track.  

However, while daily weighing may benefit your waistline, it may not be so good for your relationship. Researchers at the University of Minnesota monitored the weigh-in habits of about 1,800 dieting adults and found that those who stepped on the scale every day lost an average of 12 pounds over two years, while weekly scale watchers lost only six. Daily weigh-ins also meant dieters were less likely to regain lost weight. But, it's important to remember what we discussed above; losing weight is often a slower process for women than for men, making daily weigh-ins frustrating for women who have male diet partners.

To avoid tension at the scale and with your partner: 

  • Find the weigh-in style that suits both of you.
  • Remember, the scale is not your God, and it doesn’t determine who you are.
  • Concentrate on how your clothes fit and how you feel rather than what the scale says.
  • Avoid comparing weight loss with your partner. This is not a contest between the two of you; you're on the same team ... Team LynFit!

If you had to put a title to your weight loss story, what would it be?
"Fat is Not My Fate!"

What is your favorite LynFit metabolic boosting weight loss recipe?
The Chicken Soup recipe in Lisa's book, "The Metabolism Solution." I am not a big fish fan, so I really like to change up the meal plans by adding in the chicken soup. Plus, it is easy to make, very filling, and nice and warm in the winter months.

I also like the peanut butter bliss balls, but I have to be careful to not eat a whole batch of them at once. It helps to freeze them and then just take one out.

I love the strawberry/banana protein powder too. I always go for the sweet taste, so on the days when I am craving sweet, it hits the spot.

What is your favorite LynFit supplement to use, and why? How has it helped you?
First, I have such a slow metabolism that I truly need all of the LynFit supplements. I use all of them daily. My top two favorite supplements are the Accelerator Advanced and the Thyroid Boost.

I love the Accelerator Advanced because it combines two supplements in one (Accelerator and Carb Edge) and gives me a boost of energy. I was carrying around 150 plus extra pounds, and I always felt like I needed a stick of dynamite under me to do basic things, such as mow the lawn. I call it the badass supplement. I envision it being the drill instructor to my sluggish metabolism. I believe the Accelerator Advanced in conjunction with the use of the other supplements has helped speed up my results, which in turn helped me stick to the plan and encouraged me to keep going, even on the days when I felt like I had to far to go and it was hopeless.

I also really like the Thyroid Boost. I had all the symptoms of having hypothyroidism. My weight kept creeping up, and no matter what I tried, I could not lose weight. I had digestive issues, I was developing allergies and frequently woke up with sinus headaches. I had dry skin and frequent rashes on my neck and elbows. My hair was falling out and brittle. I always felt depressed, and my memory was not what I felt it should be. I always felt cold. After about a week of taking this supplement consistently, I noticed a significant improvement in my symptoms. Perhaps most importantly for my line of work, I noticed an improvement in my ability to focus and a marked improvement in my energy level. I also noticed that I was getting more consistent in the rate of weight loss. I like to add it to my protein shakes.

Did you encounter any obstacles? If so, how did you overcome them?
My old failed habits and negative thoughts are my two biggest obstacles. What helped fight those two obstacles is the simplicity of the plan and Lisa’s encouragement. I knew what I needed to do and I knew she was there to help me. I also felt like she was the first person that understood my struggle. I knew if I slipped, if I focused on getting back to the basics, I could get back on track quickly. The fast results also helped fight old habits and negative thoughts because it helped prove them to be false. I started looking at things with a different perspective. My success on the program continues to be a huge motivating factor in overcoming my two biggest obstacles.

How has your life changed since you lost weight?
LynFit has changed every aspect of my life. I used to avoid people and lived like a hermit. I would go to work and come home, pull the blinds, and hide. I had a rule that I had to go and get groceries before 6 a.m. so no one would catch me buying groceries that I obviously did not need. Even at 6 a.m., I was anxious, nervous, and ashamed to be buying groceries. I avoided pictures. I avoided doing activities that I really wanted to do. I self-secluded to the point where now I do not have many friends. I couldn’t look people in the eye because I was so ashamed of myself and my appearance. I loathed myself so bad I wanted to disappear. If I could have arranged it so I did not have to leave my house at all, I would have done it in a heart beat. My quality of life was non-existent. I even made myself take the garbage out after dark so no one would see me.

I tried every diet I could find. With every failed attempt, my depression grew deeper, and my waistband grew larger. I was horrified to go clothes shopping, and frankly, the only places I could find that had clothes big enough to fit me were the plus size catalogs. I was horrified that the mailman knew I had to order from the “big lady” catalogs. I fought all the way through high school to keep slender, so the fear of seeing anyone from high school or college was so terrifying, I would look at license plate numbers before entering any store. If I saw a car with a license plate from my hometown county, I would not go into the store. I thought the weight made me unlikable and unlovable.

People treat fat people like they are diseased. It is more acceptable to be an alcoholic or drug addict than to be obese. I was afraid to have to go anywhere because chairs wouldn’t fit me. I felt like I needed to apologize for my very existence. I literally placed myself in my own prison. More than twenty years of my life is gone, and I have so many regrets, I cannot count them.

I am not at my goal weight yet, but with every five pounds lost, I gain freedom and confidence. I can finally mow my lawn without having derogatory comments from teenagers shouted at me. I can now go and get groceries at normal hours without feeling like I am doing something wrong or being anxious. I can go for walks without feeling embarrassed. I have a long way to go, but I see hope now and know that I can achieve my goals. Knowing that I am going to be released from my self-imposed prison is exhilarating. LynFit has changed me to the core. The LynFit program is a true gift.  

What did you do during the first two weeks of LynFit that helped you stick to the plan?
During the first two weeks, I was faithful at doing my food journals and emailing them to Lisa. I needed her guidance and encouragement. That helped me tremendously because it made me accountable. In fact, I have slipped and now see how important that truly is to my success. I need to get back to it. The food journaling also really helps to identify what foods work the best for me. I also gave up control (huge internal battle) and put my trust in Lisa’s genius and expertise to help me with a problem I had been battling for more than 20 years.

Walk Daily

Call a friend while you’re walking, so you walk longer. You won’t even notice after a while.

Better yet, get up and walk while you're reading this. I wrote while walking on the treadmill so you might as well read it while walking  :)

Fit Fitness Into Your Everyday Life

Stretch before you get out of bed. My book, The Metabolism Solution, contains the Lazy Man's Yoga, which is exactly what it says, designed for who it says  :)

Push up out of bed. Instead of rolling around like you're a hundred years old, use your upper body to push yourself up and out of bed. You need more upper body strength as you age, yet it's the most neglected.

Stand on one foot while you brush your teeth. Every 15 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall. Every 29 minutes, an adult dies following a fall. Standing on one foot will help your balance as you age.

Push yourself up and out of chairs using your arms. It's better for you and your arms will look great.

Lift weights while you watch television. There are thousands of exercises you can do while watching the morning news. Keep your dumbbells underneath or near your sofa and lift while you watch.

The Summer of Living Lean — My Story: Walfredo Reyes, Jr.


I've been cutting out the after-show meal all the guys eat (barbecue, steaks, desserts, etc.) I sometimes drink the Complete Protein Shake as a meal after the show because I'm exhausted and hungry. I've been eating salads at catering before the show and I feel really good but it's very hard so I go to go to my bunk with my shake and talk on the phone while these guys eat. When it's over, I come out to be with the guys. This reminds me of an AA musician that couldn't stand being with Steve Winwood's band in the bus while all of us drank and had beers. If you had to put a title to your weight loss story, what would it be?
"Staying Fit for Love, Music, and Life!"

What is your favorite LynFit metabolic boosting weight loss recipe?
I love the French Vanilla Complete Protein Shake! Sometimes I break the "Lisa Lean Law" and add a little bit of banana, blueberry, or mango. Sometimes I just mix Vanilla Complete Protein in my coffeetastes delicious! I crave sugar and I need variety so I change it up every now and then by varying the flavors.

What is your favorite LynFit supplement to use, and why? How has it helped you?
My first love is the Complete Protein Shake. I just love the shake and it helps offset my bad eating days while replacing the nutrients I've lost after playing for 3-4 hours straight. The protein helps heal my body and I need the metabolic boost. I have it for breakfast and sometimes after a concert when everyone is eating junk food backstage.

The Accelerator Advanced is key, especially on my rice and bean days. Being Cuban, it's impossible to resist the foods I grew up on so I make sure to eat them early in the day and to take Accelerator Advanced before indulging.

I also take Pure Omega 3 daily along with the amazing Recovery Agent to help ease inflammation caused by repetitive stress. We play 3½ hours every day during this tour and practice, so the repetitive stress can really take a toll on my body unless special care is taken. Did you encounter any obstacles? If so, how did you overcome them?
Life on the road can be tough. It's tiring and being away from family can be rough at times, so sometimes while losing weight, I get stuck in a rut. I have to be more drastic, on exercise and diet to get back on track and over the top. Lisa calls it cleaning it up and reminds me to re-commit 100%!

How has your life changed since you lost weight?
I can wear my old cool clothes. I feel better, with more clarity and energy to do what I love—play and make more music and to love my family with better quality. 

What did you do during the first two weeks of LynFit that helped you stick to the plan?
Simple... learn how to say NO!

What advice would you give to someone trying to get into better shape?
Be disciplined and consistent. They are secrets to your success. For me, because I'm so active, I visualize Lisa's upside down triangle—bigger breakfast, medium lunch (proteins, salads, etc), and fast while you sleep which means NO to late meals. GO to bed hungry if you want flat abs.

What is your favorite way to work out?
Any way that I can get it done! I now see hotel rooms in a whole new way. Lisa is always telling me, "Forget the gym and do it any way you can get it in. Working out is not negotiable." So now I do exercises to keep my 60-year-old body in working order. 

Every day I do push ups in a door jam in my hotel room or on the tour bus. I live in hotel rooms and on the tour bus so working out isn't easy when the bus is moving, but it is also the perfect time to get it done. My workouts have to be portable so I can do them on the road.

I do frog kicks and stretching before I get out of bed for my back and I keep a dumbbell in the bus to do bicep curls. This also allows me to do them whenever I am. 

I also make sure to get outside and walk and hike for exercise to clear my head. This also gets my creative juices flowing. You would think that with all of the exercise I get every night I wouldn't have to do more exercise, but I need to keep my body in working order.

Gotta get those 10K steps in daily. But, the most important exercise I can do is "SAY NO TO JUNK FOOD"!

The Summer of Living Lean — Our Story: Paul & Sharon Brandt


I had a little heart-health scare in April 2015 and decided I wasn't going to stress about my weight. I just wanted to focus on my health. One of my biggest addictions was adding imitation creamer to my coffee. I knew it wasn't good for me and I was having intestinal issues. I started what I thought was a heart-healthy diet by adding coconut oil to my coffee and ballooned up 10lbs more!

If you had to put a title to your weight loss story, what would it be?
"Finally Fit at 50!"

What is your favorite LynFit metabolic boosting weight loss recipe?
Every morning, I mix two scoops of LynFit Vanilla Protein Powder with a capsule of Accelerator Advanced and Cutting Edge with a ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and about six ounces of water. I mix this well with a fork and then add 8 oz. of coffee. This is my protein latte.

I have done this religiously over the past two years and I think this is the key for me in keeping off the weight. Remember, I was addicted to artificial creamers in my coffee :)

Paul loves his post workout shake. He rides his stationary bike for 45 minutes and then takes two scoops of LynFit Vanilla Protein, about a teaspoon of cinnamon, a cup of frozen blueberries, and ½  a banana with three handfuls of ice and about two cups of water — too watery for me, but that's the way he likes it :)

Did you encounter any obstacles? If so, how did you overcome them?
We both give ourselves a 5 pound. window. We weigh ourselves every morning and log it. If I'm on the low side, I may have a few more carbs that day. If I'm on the higher end, then I scale back the carbs. Paul still has not had bread since August 2015!

How has your life changed since you lost weight?
Wow! It has changed every aspect of our lives. We realize how important our health is for energy, marriage, parenting, work focus, interactions with others, and inspiring others.

What did you do during the first two weeks of LynFit that helped you stick to the plan?

Most people think that losing weight is simple—decrease calories and move more. But nothing could be further from the truth. If that worked, America's obesity crisis wouldn't be happening.
