Crave Less This Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day; the one day of the year we want to feel good about ourselves, feel loved, and show love. Sadly, our overeating and struggles with cravings can make us feel just the opposite!

If you're overweight chances are you struggle with cravings and almost never feel full. According to a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, obese people are out of luck when it comes to suppressing the hunger hormone. Researchers discovered that the glucagon hormone, which is secreted by the body's pancreas and known to help control blood sugar levels and increase feelings of satiety after meals, had no effect on obese participants in the study. Researchers concluded that once a person becomes obese, glucagon cannot suppress the appetite or induce feelings of fullness.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, an obese individual is one whose body mass index (BMI) is 30 or higher. The CDC also reports that the number of obese adults in the United States is nearly 40% of the population while the number of obese and overweight adults is nearly 70%!

I know from my own personal experience that lacking energy and feeling depressed and bored were the top 2 reasons I overate and struggled with cravings. Slimming Super Bowl Secrets

From Halloween through New Year's is what I refer to as "The Super Bowl of Overeating". Then of course comes the New Year's resolutions, which almost always include losing weight.....until Super Bowl Sunday rolls around and wreaks havoc on our weight loss goals, and our waistlines.

Here's the kicker.....Most people consume 3,500 calories piling up their plate on Super Bowl Sunday. That's more than most people should eat for two days! Not to spoil your game day, but consider this: If you eat one slice of cheese pizza, six chicken wings with dressing, a few handfuls of chips with dip, two beers (or wine) and a cookie, you could easily consume 2,000 calories during the game alone! Add more booze, which always means overheating, and calories can climb to 3,500 if you really pile up your plate. This can take you all day in the gym to work off.

What I find interesting is even people who don't watch the game find reason to over eat. 108.7 million people watched the Super Bowl last year and 200 million didn't watch TV, but still found reason to over eat anyway. If you're not careful the pounds you gain on Super Bowl Sunday can stay with you all year long.

This time I'm not going to tell you what not to eat. We all know how that turns out. Instead, I'm going to show you how to fix the damage, fast!

THE CHEATER'S DIET

What to do the day before and the morning after you cheat:

If you don't want to gain weight every time you have a cheat day you need a game plan. Planning for your "cheat day" can make the difference between gaining lots of weight or possibly losing weight. The secret to your weight loss success is all about managing your blood sugar levels. The most important thing to remember is whenever we cheat/over eat; it's always on carbohydrates and fats which slow our metabolisms. So in order to get back on track with weight loss we need to steer clear of these foods and focus on metabolic boosting proteins and lots of leafy greens in order to boost our metabolisms. Eating clean, lean foods is the best way to lower our blood sugar levels, which sets us up for fast weight loss.

Avoid eating carbohydrates, dairy and fruits as they will raise your blood sugar levels, slowing down your metabolism.
