What You Don't Know About Melanoma/Skin Cancer Can Kill You

What you don't know about melanoma/skin cancer can kill you. It almost killed me! Tanning was an addiction that I didn't realize I had until I had to stay out of the sun. Melanoma taught me NOT TO be afraid to die, but rather to be more afraid NOT to live my life to the fullest while I'm here on God's green earth. It's been 10 years, and by God's grace, I'm melanoma-free, thanks to what I learned about the dangers of the sun. Prevention is the best cure!

As a fitness enthusiast, I participated in many outdoor sports, from wakeboarding, tennis, golf, hiking, biking, running, and anything that involved sun and fun. Everything I knew was wrong.

To help you avoid skin cancer, PREVENTION IS THE CURE, to maximize your cancer prevention. These tips don't apply only to melanoma but to all cancers, as well as anyone who takes medications (anti-rejection meds or meds that suppress immunity, etc.).

  • Know your moles! Do a weekly mole check and pay very close attention to any moles that look angry or start to change.
  • When in doubt, get it checked out. Early detection is paramount, and it saved my life. The longer you wait, the more time cancer has to spread. Melanoma spreads deep like a slug getting bolted into your skin, and the mole is simply the top signal. You would be shocked how deep a small mole can go.
  • Protect yourself by covering up with UPF clothing, a hat, and sunglasses every time you're in the sun. The eyes are one of the most sensitive areas and hardest to treat. Avoid the sun from 10 am to 2 pm when rays are the strongest. Don't be fooled into thinking that sunscreen is enough; it's not. Use sunblock, and you still have to reapply often. Sunblock only allows you to stay in the sun longer without burning. Still, most people don’t know that overexposing yourself to the sun weakens your immunity, which is why so many people get blisters on their lips after a day at the beach. It's also why you feel so tired the day after.

It's important to know that even if your DNA predisposes you to melanoma, other diseases, or cancers, it's our lifestyle choices that pull the trigger. There are simple things you can do every day to strengthen your immunity and go from a survivor to a thriver, looking and feeling your very best.

  • Diet makes or breaks immunity. Focus on fresh foods like fresh leafy green salads, white fish, salmon, omega-3 essential fatty acids/oils (canola oil, salmon, sardines, etc.), and clean proteins from white fish and natural whey/vegan protein sources. Eat less or avoid red meat, pork, and poultry, as studies show they can trigger inflammation that accelerates cancer cell growth.
  • Improve sleep quality and rest. Both help your body heal and recover, strengthen your immunity, and help prevent issues. If needed, they can also improve and maximize cancer treatments before, during, and after surgery. Aim for 8 hours of sleep every night and develop good sleep hygiene. Even if you do sleep well, take LynFit Lean Sleep Melatonin. Melatonin is the most powerful antioxidant on the planet, working hard to protect your body and brain while you sleep.
  • Attitude is everything! Keep yours healthy by avoiding Google. It's not God! FIGHT FEAR WITH FAITH instead, and avoid excessive focus on being sick. Focus on building health physically, mentally, and spiritually. Think of this as a “fight,” and your goal is to WIN. Which brings me to my last tip …
  • Play to stay active vs. overexercising or exercising too strenuously. Overexercising can weaken immunity, blocking your body's ability to fight against the war raging inside, and exacerbate side effects, aches, and pains. On the flip side, staying active helps improve circulation, which helps deliver nutrients throughout your body and remove toxins that build up and make you feel sick and cause edema/bloat, etc.

MOVING YOUR BODY IS KEY! Exercise in a way that leaves you feeling better, mood boosted, and not drained. Choose enjoyable activities. A walk outside in the fresh air listening to waves crashing, birds chirping, kids laughing... It's good for your body and your soul. JUST DO IT!! 🤗

Our power comes when we make peace with our bodies. Peace doesn’t take away your power. IT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER. Lead whatever you do with LOVE, especially when you take care of your body, to win this fight!
