Did you know there are more people over the age of 55 than any other time in human history, and the population of people over the age of 85 will increase 400 percent over the next decade? Those are some sobering numbers and worthy of taking a look at how we can stay healthy as we age.
One of the main reasons we begin to slow down as we age is achy joints, but the slowdown doesn’t stop there. When we stop moving the way our bodies are designed to move, the brain begins its downhill slide, bringing along with it diseases like heart disease, diabetes, depression, and anxiety, thanks to the exploding obesity epidemic in America.
With a few simple tweaks to your lifestyle, you can stop the aging process dead in its tracks, or at least slow it down. With the cost of health care today it pays to do everything in our power to avoid getting sick in the first place, and it’s a lot easier than you think. Staying healthy now is always the best way to remain healthy later. Who knows, you might be able to remain independent versus having to live in a smelly nursing home!
Below is a Stop the Aging Plan that anyone can do, anytime, anywhere—no excuses! You need to move it or lose it and stop thinking of exercise as something you have to do in a gym. You've heard of thinking outside the box, now it's time to start thinking outside the gym. Thirty-five percent of U.S. adults don't exercise at all, and lack of exercise is the primary cause of chronic disease. It's not just affecting our bodies; it's also affecting our minds in the form of depression and anxiety.
Think of it this way: If you rest, you'll rust. And rusty joints hurt!
Relieve Pain Naturally and Promote Healthy Energy, So You Feel Like Moving
This can be done by making over your medicine cabinet with all-natural pain relievers versus over-the-counter drugs that clog the liver and stop the healing process. Taking an all-natural approach will make you feel better, and you won't have to deal with the side effects that can be just as bad as the ailment itself.
Walk Daily
Everyone needs to be walking 10,000 steps daily, period (5,000 before lunch so you're sure to get all your steps in by the end of the day). You can add in extra steps by pacing when you’re on the phone or walking around the block several times a day. If it’s too hot, walk around inside your house or head to the mall. Call a friend while you’re walking, so you walk longer. You won’t even notice after a while.
Better yet, get up and walk while you're reading this. I wrote while walking on the treadmill so you might as well read it while walking :)
Fit Fitness Into Your Everyday Life
Stretch before you get out of bed. My book, The Metabolism Solution, contains the Lazy Man's Yoga, which is exactly what it says, designed for who it says :)
Push up out of bed. Instead of rolling around like you're a hundred years old, use your upper body to push yourself up and out of bed. You need more upper body strength as you age, yet it's the most neglected.
Stand on one foot while you brush your teeth. Every 15 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall. Every 29 minutes, an adult dies following a fall. Standing on one foot will help your balance as you age.
Push yourself up and out of chairs using your arms. It's better for you and your arms will look great.
Lift weights while you watch television. There are thousands of exercises you can do while watching the morning news. Keep your dumbbells underneath or near your sofa and lift while you watch.
Make sure you've downloaded the metabolic boosting workouts to make it easier for you.
Power Your Life with the Right Kind of Protein
How do you know if you're protein-deficient?
- Low energy
- Weak
- Wounds that don't heal quickly
- Low immunity
- Flabby, saggy, crepey skin
- Edema (swelling of the face or body due to fluid accumulation, especially in the abdomen area)
- Changes in hair or skin
We lose at least 1 percent muscle each year due to lack of activity and protein deficiency. To make matters worse, as we age, we tend to either skip meals or eat the wrong thing. Develop a healthy habit first thing in the morning of fueling your body with the amino acids it needs. This one thing can:
- Preserve lean muscle tissue
- Strengthen and protect your bones
- Provide your heart, brain, and muscles with the right kind of fuel
You cannot get this same effect from just eating food because you don't digest food as well as a clean, high-quality Whey Protein Shake. It's the #1 choice when it comes to nourishing your mind and body. It will also help to:
- Lower blood pressure
- Balance blood sugar levels (juicing will not do this)
- Boost mood, alleviating depression and anxiety
- Improves immunity when you need it the most
WARNING: Store-bought, pre-made protein shakes do not work effectively. You need clean, high-quality protein, like LynFit Complete Protein. In the end, it's less expensive and more delicious!
