You Can Win At Losing - There's More Hope Than You Think!

If you've followed me for any length of time, you know that my specialty is working with metabolic resistance disorders… turning them around to rev up for weight loss. And, just like many of you, I've tried every diet under the sun at one time or another. And again, just like many of you, after each new diet/fad, I found myself even more desperate and with pounds added back on. Just as important, you need to know that you are not alone in this struggle. Having said all that, I wanted to share this email I received this week that proves that very point. You can tell just from reading it that this is someone who is "there" -- struggling with that desperation.
I also want you to read very carefully my response. You'll see that you don't have to be stuck in the same rut time and time again. You CAN DO THIS. You CAN OVERCOME THIS. You CAN TURN YOUR FEAR INTO FAITH. You CAN WIN AT LOSING!

I have been following you on WTNH for quite some time now; and, I truly believe that I could be the exception to your statement that you haven't met a metabolism that you couldn't fix.
I am a female who just turned 64 years old...yikes!! I was very fit and able to lose undesirable weight pretty easily when I ramped up my diet and exercise regimen. Well, about 6 years ago I began to develop severe skeletal back issues which have pretty much sidelined me from doing the activities that I used to love, such as power walking and Zumba. I try to eat a healthy balanced diet (though, I hate journaling and calorie counting); and, I have had my thyroid tested through routine blood work multiple times. I have gained an average of 5 -7 pounds every year...yes, I also went through, and may still be going through, menopause during this period of time. So...here I am nearly 40 pounds heavier and desperate for change. Yep, I used the word DESPERATE!!
I would love to find a system that is affordable that will reset my metabolism and allow me to begin losing the weight NOW before things get totally out of control! I even detest the way that I look in pictures! I finally decided to sit down and write to you because nothing ventured, nothing gained! I really look forward to your reply and to seeing if you feel that I am not beyond hope."

Thanks for your email and you have no idea how much I LOVE a challenge, and I beg to differ with you regarding your metabolism :)))
It’s not a question of "if" it will work, but rather, are you willing to do what it takes? It’s a lot easier than you think and doesn’t require that you exercise. In fact, your weight loss may be even better if you don’t.
The 5-7 pound weight gain every year is typical after age 35 most times, and I talk heavily about this in my book The Metabolism Solution where I decided to share my story because I was, and am, exactly like you and am also now in menopause.
The good news... it’s not your fault, and there is much more hope than you think! My philosophy is to keep it simple, so it's doable. Make it delicious, so we want to do it versus have to do it, and educate people on what the rules of this metabolic game really are so that they can Win at Losing!
As for a balanced diet, that’s actually very funny, once you understand how the metabolism really works. Sadly, these rules have not been adjusted since the '60s, and it's why we as a nation are so unhealthy. Balanced diets are baseline, and they don’t take a few very important things into consideration, such as your age, metabolic type, diet or weight gain history, medications you take, sleep issues, hormonal issues, activity levels, stress levels, and what type of diet your body loses best on while still protecting your health.
I, like you, gained 40 extra pounds despite my over-exercising. Thankfully, it’s the reason I am where I am today—sharing my story with people like yourself. I’ve been there, so I know firsthand how depressing it can be, and also the desperation that can cause you to try some crazy things that can harm your health and cause your metabolism to be even slower, or worse, make it come to a screeching halt to the point that even your blood work shows the thyroid has tanked (and that’s a lot because low thyroid seldom shows up on blood work).
