Are You a Carb Addict?
Ditch Food Cravings in 24 Hours in 3 Steps!
A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that drug addicts and carb junkies have a lot in common when it comes to cravings.
Did you know that findings show that the quick spike and subsequent crash in blood sugar that comes after eating highly processed carbs activates the reward and addiction center of the brain much like the cravings a drug addict would experience? The study suggests avoiding refined carbohydrates as a good weight-loss strategy to offset strong cravings that carbs induce.
But how easy is it for a carb junkie to go cold turkey? It can be extraordinarily difficult to just cut carbs out of your life and I find it’s one of the biggest obstacles most of my clients have to achieving their weight loss goals! When it comes to carbs you have to have an intervention of sorts to really shock your body and brain into a new way of thinking. Of course, not all carbs are bad! For example, whole grains and carbohydrates in vegetables take a long time to break down, raising the blood sugar slowly, whereas, refined carbs are the real culprits (such as sugar, corn syrup and white flour) that cause sharp spikes in the blood sugar. And it’s the refined carbs that most of us find ourselves struggling with that causes the brain to crave even more food as a reward.
Here are three refined carb intervention techniques that you can use to recalibrate your mind and ultimately your body, from unwanted food cravings within 24 hours!
Intervention Technique #1: A Green Apple A Day – You can effectively shut off your hunger hormone having a green apple mid-morning, as shown in the LynFit meal plans. Green apples are a low-calorie snack that contain no fat or cholesterol and has less fructose than a red apple. They are effective at shutting down your hunger hormone because they have the ability to lift blood sugar to just the right level. Plus, the antioxidants in green apples may help prevent metabolic syndrome, a condition marked by excess belly fat or an "apple shape."
Intervention Technique #2: Control the Slip Ups with Supplementation: In any intervention there will be an occasional slip up; someone in the office will order pizza or if you don’t have that slice of birthday cake you’ll offend someone. Sometimes it’s impossible to go through the day and not expect that we will encounter a carb dilemma which is why I recommend taking the LynFit Carb Edge (link to LynFit Carb Edge) which has white kidney bean extract called Phase 2 that literally paralyzes the enzymes that digest starch so carbs cannot be broken down into sugar. The Phase 2 white kidney bean extract has been clinically shown to reduce starch digestion and promote weight loss. It works by temporarily binding with the enzyme that digests starch, preventing a portion of the carbohydrates from being broken down into sugar and stored as fat. One capsule before a meal can block up to 65 percent of unwanted carbs without causing gastric distress according to a study published in Nutrition Business Journal.
Intervention Technique #3: Make Your Own Dunkin’ – Dessert drinks and ice cream are some of today’s most tempting fast food pick-me-ups. Turn any Dunkin’ Donuts dessert drink into a protein based treat that will not only kill food cravings but can also help boost your metabolism! To fight against the urge, a home-made Metabolic Boosting Mocha Protein Latte (link to Protein Shake Recipes) can give you the satisfaction of a frothy dessert without hijacking your brain into addiction mode.
Whey Protein (link to Complete Protein Shakes and Lean Bars) is also known for halting the stress hormone known as cortisol (which increases blood sugar and depresses the immune system) and keeping it from rising.

From Amy - I've Lost Almost 30 Pounds On The LynFit Program!
Early 2012, I knew it was time to start eating better and exercising. I had been doing neither. At 31 and having had a baby about 3 years earlier, I could no longer use the excuse that it was too soon after the birth to get going.
I am a classic stress eater and just plain lover of food. I have always been 'big-boned', as my doctor had said (used as yet another excuse). But I knew that I was having a real problem when multiple people, in multiple places, began to ask me when I was expecting. Um, sorry to disappoint all, but that was my "food baby", not a real baby I was carrying!
I turned to Lisa Lynn and the LynFit Program because I had seen others achieve lasting results, particularly food lovers like myself. I tried one class and was immediately hooked! Since the metabolic boosting workouts Lisa utilizes were cardio challenging without me having to be so aerobically vibrant, I was very interested in staying with her program. Did I mention that I don't care to exercise? I really dislike bouncing around a room to get an aerobic workout. I'm not the most graceful gal and feel like a clod with that kind of workout. Additionally, Lisa says that with 30 minutes, 3 times a week, I can get and maintain weight loss results. Well, for this busy mom, that's something I can stick with, and have! Now I am sporting the results to show for it!
Having only taken one of Lisa's classes coupled with drinking her very affordable and very tasty Protein Shake (best one I've ever tried) twice a day, and eating more cleanly according to her food log found on her website, I saw a 5 pound weight loss in 1 week. It was incredible. I continue to lose weight gradually and steadily, while toning overall, on this same program, except now I'm working out 2 times a week at home with Lisa's video workouts, and 1 time a week with her in person. I also try and run 2-6 miles, 3-4 times a month with a good friend. I love it! Lisa's program is something this stay-at-home mom, working with a tight single income, can stick with, and continue to see results from!
After all is said and done, almost 1 year later, I have lost 26 pounds and my "food baby" is gone. I feel great and can keep up with my vivacious 3-year old - even set the pace for her too. I still am not done with my goals. I plan on losing 5-7 pounds more and doing some overall toning by increasing the weight I utilize in Lisa's workouts.
For those who may be wondering how my diet has changed since I started with LynFit, here's an example of a good day for me. You can see how you're able to still enjoy eating with the LynFit Lifestyle:
7am: (2) Gummi multi-vitamins (hope to replace this with the Power Shot when possible), Chocolate Protein Shake and black or green tea
10:30am: Apple (I don't like green apples so I have a Fuji apple instead) and 2-3 servings of raw celery or green beans
12:00pm: Carb Edge, 4oz. chicken or fish with 3 cups of greens or 2 cups Normandy-style veggies (Costco)
3pm: Chocolate Protein Shake or Toffee Lean Bar if I have them on hand
6pm: 4oz. chicken or fish with 3 cups of greens or 2 cups of Normandy-style veggies (Costco), or, 3 egg whites with 3-4 cups of sauteed spinach and 1/2 cup of corn
8pm: Decaf Bigelow French Vanilla Tea
One time a week I have frozen yogurt, and definitely more than 1/2 cup serving. Probably a 2 cup serving with sprinkles and a spoonful of chocolate chips.
Yes, I do have some really 'bad day' eating habits. Like adding a tablespoon of peanut butter with my morning apple snack, or I may make chocolate chip cookies or zucchini bread and eat 1-2 servings.
And here are a couple of great freebies: Sugarless gum (Dessert Delight Mint Chocolate Chip and Strawberry Shortcake), and Starbucks Iced Passion Tea Lemonade (no sugar added).
I'm so grateful that I can see the results, even with my 'bad days'. All the hard work is paying off. Without Lisa and her expertise, help, and products, it would not have been possible. Thanks Lisa!
FROM THE HEART
Every day people ask me… were you ever fat? Ha, that's a funny question to me because I came from a very inactive family who did not take part in anything active. My family watched NASCAR races and if you have ever been to a race you know there isn't a healthy food in sight! It's french fries ,beer and hot dogs and you sit through the whole 3-4 hour race! I was plump already and as I became a teen I just kept growing! I lived for food and when life got tough I ate my way through the pain! Eating my feelings made things worse.
I also learned that I was anxious and that made me eat...My hunger had nothing to do with real hunger but rather a dysfunctional way to suppress my feelings and that I had to learn how to give myself permission to feel my feelings and process them because they don't go away. In fact, if you eat to suppress your feelings it makes things worse because you have the guilt from eating to deal with now!
I also learned to find something to be grateful for everyday because it makes you feel better and that makes you want to work out and eat right!
I learned that food is part of the problem NOT the solution and that when your
food is in order your whole life will be I order!
I take oxytocin now if I feel anxious and that allows me to navigate my way through the uncomfortable stuff and that allows me to walk away from food and lose weight.
I say this simple Serenity Prayer when I feel stressed
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference!
I urge you to bring God into your weight loss by asking him for help or better yet scream HELP!!!! He will give you what you need to overcome the obstacles in your life and if you’re too tired he will carry you through!
Here are some questions that I was asked when I appeared on Trinity Broadcast Network
Q- Carman - Did you believe that you could lose weight?
A- Lisa Lynn- No!! I did not think I would lose weight. I thought that weight loss was for everyone else but not for me. Being "stocky" and " bulky" translation....over weight was how I would live for the rest of my life even though I was in charge of makeover groups that performed body makeovers in as little as 2 weeks! I helped everyone lose weight and reach their goals but it just wasn't happening for me! My metabolism was dead and now I know that’s why everyone else lost weight while I gained it! My struggles inspired me to figure out how to finally lose weight in spite of my under active thyroid and dead metabolism.
Q- Carman - What changes have you made that helped you lose weight with an under active thyroid and sluggish metabolism?
A- Lisa Lynn I learned that I need to eat more protein and that's why I drink a protein shake every day for breakfast. It boosts my metabolism, whereas, the cereal I was eating made me crave carbs even more and was causing my insulin to spike stopping my fat loss instantly!
Q– Carman - You mentioned that you have a serious sweet tooth and that you fight with food all of the time. Is that true?
A- Lisa Lynn Yes and I'm not proud of that at all! It's been the single most frustrating thing in
my life. I crave sweets all the time
(not anymore since I eat Lean Bars and drink the Complete protein shake ) and
once I start eating them I can't stop!!! Let’s be honest.... it's a binge and
it is very depressing to be this way.
Everything turned around for me the day I started a system that required me to focus on protein and vegetables and exercising daily and no more bread, cereal, rice, pasta, crackers or high carb protein bars BUT I don’t miss them because I feel so much happier and leaner!
The program relied on supplements that helped stop cravings, increased my energy and alleviated my depression and for the first time in my life I felt happy and like I wanted to lose weight! That also meant that losing weight might be possible for me!
I began weighing and measuring my food and writing everything down that went into my mouth and I had to decrease my exercise program as I was exercising very intensely to over-compensate for all of the food I was eating . I even tried being vegan to control my weight and I actually grew larger!!!!! Immediately I lost weight and that's what inspired me to create my Leaner Lifestyle System! I wanted to share my findings with the world and make losing weight a lasting reality.

stopping me from losing weight and feeling at peace with my body. I hope this

Hidden Sugar: Top Sources You May Not Know
Think your "diet" food is going to cause you to lose weight? Think again. Can't figure out why you're not losing weight even though you think you're eating right? It could very well be that your "diet" food is stopping your weight loss before it gets started due to the notorious hidden sugars.
Remember, just because it says "no sugar added" doesn't meant it's sugar-free. It just means that no "extra" sugar was added to the contents. Chances are that the product itself may contain enough sugar to slow down your weight loss without you even knowing it.
So, want to lose weight? Know where the top sources of hidden sugar are and stop eating them. When we eat sugar, we hurt our weight-loss efforts in two ways:
- We cause our fat cells to go into storage mode.
- We stop fat-burning. Instead of burning fat while doing cardiovascular exercise, we are simply burning off all of the extra sugar that we consumed.
Sugar is a simple carbohydrate that elevates your blood sugar. Every time you consume sugar, or a product that contains sugar, you’re not only elevating your blood sugar but you’re stopping fat loss. If you’re trying to lose body fat and excess weight, stay away from sugar. This essentially starves the fat cells so that they go away. After all, most of us exercise to burn body fat.
I know how hard it is to avoid sugar. It's extreme to say it, but sugar is one of the most widely used drugs in our country. Sugar is also in part responsible for diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cavities. Did you know that sugar, due to its addictive nature, makes your diet plan harder to stick to? Did you know that sugar feeds cancer cells?
The key to overall health and to successful workouts is to cut sugar from your diet. Of course, you’ll need to make sure you’re not unknowingly consuming it. Here are the top hidden sources that you can find sugar in your diet:
Toasted rice flakes contain 10 grams of sugar per serving. Instant flavored oatmeal often has 16 grams of sugar per serving. Instead, go for sugar-free, high-fiber cereals or plain instant oatmeal that you flavor yourself with blueberries and cinnamon.
Popular pre-packaged weight-loss drinks pack 35 grams of sugar per serving. Homemade smoothies made with skim milk can have up to 80 grams of sugar depending on how you make them. One cup of skim milk has 11 grams of sugar. Most soy milk brands have 12 grams of sugar per serving. Once you add in juice and fresh fruit, you’ve made a super-sugary concoction. LynFit's Protein Shakes are very low-sugar, making them the best choice for faster weight loss.
Yogurt and Yogurt Drinks
If your yogurt or yogurt drink isn’t sugar-free, it can have anywhere from 27-60 grams of sugar per serving. Aim for the sugar-free variety.
People tend to overeat dried fruit because they think that it’s good for them. But dried fruit is not as nutritious as fresh fruit. A 1.5-ounce box of raisins has 30 grams of sugar! Instead, grab fresh fruit like a green apple.
Juice can have anywhere from 30-80 grams of sugar. Many processed juices also lack the fiber whole fruit or fresh juices provide. Drink water instead.
Be sure to read all nutrition labels. Stay away from sugar and sugary products to put your fat loss in the fast lane.
